"Business situations always come down to people situations", Mark McCormack
Business DVD

Business DVD

Publisher: 4 Learning / Espresso Education

Features 6 x 25-minute programmes suitable for all Awarding Body specifications. Curriculum Connections: Business activity and location, Finance, Human resources, Customer service, Communication. The Business DVD is a revealing and entertaining series of programmes showing students the realities of running a business in today’s environment. It looks at two active businesses - an established chain of sushi restaurants and a small independent record label - over a difficult six month of operation. The programmes show how they tackle the needs of their customers and stay afloat.

(1) Business or Pleasure? Portrait of independent record label Truck Records based in Oxford. We see the label's Trailer Park nights being organised and managed, and follow their head of sales to an international music conference.
(2) YO! Fulham. YO! Sushi launches a new restaurant in Fulham's new shopping centre. We see the recruitment and training of new workers and the building and design of the restaurant.
(3) Staying in the Black: Follows through the mastering, production and release of Truck band Black Nielson's new album, how it is plugged and whether it gets a crucial play on BBC Radio.
(4) Fish to Go. YO! Sushi take-away brand, Yo To Go, is in urgent need of a facelift. Marketing experts 'Feel’ are called in to help, but how effective will their campaign be?
(5) Contracts and Commitments: Truck Records is on a knife edge, leaking money, and its creditors are kicking up a fuss. It has to tie down its bands on secure contracts, but the bands are not playing ball.
(6) People and Profits: YO! Sushi’s Fulham branch has been open for three months but is still not hitting its targets, the restaurant is overstaffed and turnover needs to be higher.

Can be used with DVD players, on computers with DVD-Rom drives and is ideal for use on interactive whiteboards. Suitable for Applied Business.
